I Was Told

By Rabson Kashamba

A drowning man's hand is raised above the water, with the word "help" painted on it.

The wisest words I was told
That all that glisters is not gold,
And wherever you may roam
Home isn't gilded walls.

The wisest words I was told
Speech is silver, but silence is gold,
And a prison is not made by
Only those stone walls.

The wisest words I was told
That a rolling stone gathers no moss.
When a special friend you find
Kind, may them you treat.

The wisest words I was told
Never put the cart before the horse,
And that a lightning would never
Twice the same place hit.

The wisest words I was told
A leopard doesn't change its spots.
A rose’s thorn could harm your life,
Don't be fooled by its scent.

The wisest words I was told
Never ever stop believing in mighty God.
But when they said this life is hard,
I think this isn't what was meant.
